MHS 2009 Graduation

Congratulations to my sister, Jessica, for completing high school. I had many family members up this weekend to help celebrate and we had a great time. Also, as a little bonus, I was able to sell my photos from graduation to the Poughkeepsie Journal - a paper I have been freelancing for for about 2 years now. These are 3 of my favorites. Two were submitted to print (only the valedictorian made print even though, IMO, the cap tossing shot crushed any photo they published in their graduation section.)

Graduates of the class of 2009 at Millbrook High School in Millbrook, NY, toss their caps into the air after completing their ceremony on Saturday. Millbrook graduated 115 seniors off to vary colleges as well as 17 different SUNY schools.

Matthew Ryan Kelly, the valedictorian of the Millbrook High School graduation class of 2009, delivers his address during the Saturday commencement. Temperatures peaked but spirits were high as 115 seniors recieved their diplomas on the elementary school field, heavily populated with family and friends.

My sister at her graduation. Congrats again Jess. We love you so much and are very proud!

Opening Night at the Renegades

Got to photograph opening night of the Hudson Valley Renegades baseball team. They are the farm team to the Tampa Bay Rays. Tonight was a night of not only baseball, but good food and entertainment. I photographed for both the feature story, and the sports section. Here are a few of my favorites.

Aberdeen Ironbirds catcher Brian Ward tags out Hudson Valley Renegades outfielder Dustin Biell on an in-the-park homerun attempt during the Hudson Valley Renegades opening night at the Dutchess Stadium on June, 19. The 'Gades went up 4-0 in the first inning against the Aberdeen Ironbirds.

If you want it, the Renegades have it. Be it hot dogs, burgers, beer, fries, or some good o'l fried dough, opening night at the Hudson Valley Renegades is not just a night of baseball, but a night of food, family, and fun.

Left to right: Richie Finn, 6, and John Hufnagel, 8, wait for the game to start at the Hudson Valley Renegades opening night at the Dutchess Stadium on June, 19. Finn and Hufnagel, who were part of the York-Town PBA picnic, have been attending 'Gades games for nearly 6 years.

Ghetto Gear (But not really)

So during a lecture on gear at Sports Shooter Academy, we learned a neat, cheap way to make a floor plate. That is, a device that will hold a remote camera on a level surface. To buy a new floor plate can run you damn near $100, but, with the help of Ron Tanawaki, I made one for around $12 (not including the ball head which is around $60). Not too bad. If I can get a pair of Pocket Wizards and the cable for my D70s, I plan on remoting my sister's graduation. We'll see.

Fisheye Shenanigans

Borrowed a Nikkor 16mm f/2.8 fisheye lens from a friend for the weekend. It's definitely a fun lens to play around with and make some interesting images. These were all shot on my D3 as well.

My mom and I in the local diner enjoying breakfast/lunch.

For the first two years of my life, my Grandmother started buying me savings bonds. She quickly got bored of buying paper so stopped. I cashed them out this past week to pay for my D3. Grandma bought $938 worth. I cashed them all for $2600. Thank you Grandma.

At a friends place for dinner.
